The O'Reilly Family - Chapter 2

Last week in the O'Reilly house, Bridget was settling into life after her divorce from her husband. Siobhan was doing what teenagers do, mainly admiring herself, with the odd bit of study thrown in. Siobhan will narrate this update.
"Mum finally made it to Elementary Teacher, which meant she brought home this cool bookcase. It's great, because I can study body skill without having to get all hot and sweaty. Sweaty is soooooo not a good look. And having met that spotty Simon boy, our neighbour, I am not going the same way. I'd hate to look in the mirror and be confronted by horrid pus volcanos. When I asked Mum why the Clarke boys were both so spotty she told me it was lack of hygiene. Yuk! I shower twice daily now, just to be sure my face doesn't end up like theirs."

"Mum spends alot of time with her nose in a book. I want to be a a famous Lawyer or something when I grow up, so I'm following her example. Who needs boys anyhow. Money's much more useful. After all 'diamonds are a girl's best friend', and I intend to be dripping in them when I get older. I hated leaving our old house, and miss the maid, and the butler, and the cook, and the Golf GTi Dad bought me when I turned 16. Life here sucks, and blows, and I can't wait to leave for University. I'm going to find a man who shares my dream of fortune. I know it's supposed to be 'fame and fortune', but you can stick the fame. I just want the fortune."

"Obviously I'm a bit of a boy magnet, but I'm not that interested. Mum on the other hand likes a bit of chat after spending time reading. Her social gets way down, and if it wasn't for the likes of Ricky Cornier, who follows me home from school every day, she'd be a Social Bunny candidate. Now how embarrassing would that be?

"She's always lecturing me lately. 'Do your homework Siobhan, you're lucky to have had the opportunity to learn how.' She really likes that Simon Clarke, and holds him up as an example of how tough life could be. I'm starting to resent his friendship with my Mother. Get it Simon, MY Mother. He even had the cheek to ask her to help him with his homework. She was flattered of course, but she only teaches the little kids, and wouldn't know a thing about physics or anything. I mean, up until she left Dad I don't even think she knew how water boiled."

"Nice job on the photo by the way. You didn't get too close, so none of the readers will be assaulted by 'The Face of a Thousand Zits'.

"Things are going well for me at work. Well, the boss can obviously see potential when it's staring him right in the face."

"The same can't be said for Mum. At least the school isn't insisting on the return of the bookcase it gave her, which is a bonus. I've used it to get eight golden scholarship points in 6 areas. I didn't bother with cleaning, as I'm not going to need it. Once I graduate I shall get a maid."

"This is about as hot and sweaty as it gets for me. I'm determined to get the Tsang Footwork scholarship, and it helps Mum to unwind after all her studying. I'm due to become an adult tomorrow, so tonight I'm off to University. And how well did I do with scholarships do I hear you ask? If not, I'm going to tell you anyway!"

"Only $7,250, that's what. You'd think I'd look happier, but I try to avoid smiling too much. Firstly, it encourages wrinkles, and secondly, people might think I'm gloating. Which I'm not. Honestly."

Siobhan is so funny! "Face of a thousand zits". Love it! She is quite a vain girl, isn't she? Congrats on all the scholarships once again! Look forward to reading about her at university!

Siobhan is a great narrator - she reminds me slightly of my younger sister.

On to the next bit

Siobhan is funny. She's that girl that you wouldn't mind hanging around with--for all of 15 minutes. I especially loved how she tried to redeem herself at the end. Bridget should use Dorian as a better example--she doesn't seem to realize what a selfish boy Simon is. But then that might make Siobhan more annoyed, considering their date.
